The Guelph Compassion Centre and Research Institute (GCCRI) was founded in 2009.

The GCCRI believes that decentralized cultivation and research facilities are an ideal format for the cultivation of medical cannabis to ensure a consistent and quality supply for Health Canada licensees. The GCCRI was created to fill the gap between Health Canada's Designated Grower program and the lack of proffessional designated growers that exist. The GCCRI believes that through controlled production of cannabis, research into the medical benefits of particular strains and their correlation to particular ailments can be conducted. The GCCRI is a member of the Guelph Chamber of Commerce.
